Silent Cinema was dreamed up by Damian Barr—journalist, writer, cultural entrepreneur and Salonierre. He works with a crack team of technical, legal and production experts.
As the world’s first reader-in-residence, he was shortlisted for the Lloyd’s Innovation Prize at the Arts&Business Awards. For his lifestyle features at the Times he was shortlisted for a British Press Award. He runs the phenomenally successful Shoreditch House Literary Salon which has expanded into Reading Weekend holidays in the UK and abroad. He has worked with big and boutique brands including Motorola, Soho House group, Orange, Hendrick’s Gin, Vodafone and Heal’s. With Volvo he produced the sell-out hit Starlite: the world’s first urban drive-in which is about to go national.
His stories and projects have repeatedly been featured in the Times, Sunday Times, Financial Times, Independent, Independent on Sunday, Mail, Mail on Sunday, Conde Nast Traveller, Vogue, Grazia, GQ, Glamour, Guardian, Observer, NY Times, TIME, Time Out, USAToday and on CNN, ABC and BBC.
Damian is Faculty at the School of Life and a long-standing member of the Coolbrands Council. He has so far written one book and two plays for BBC Radio 4. He keeps some fancy urban hens: Gertie, Mabel, Betty and Dixie.
